Smarter Abandoned Cart Recovery!
Online shopping just got a little smoother. A new update to ecommerce stores makes recovering abandoned carts more user-friendly and flexible. Shoppers can now return to their abandoned carts using a sharable checkout link that works across devices, no matter where or how they were browsing before.
This means more conversions, fewer lost sales, and a better experience for your customers.
What’s Changed?
Before this update, abandoned carts could only be recovered if the customer returned using the same session or device. Now, every abandoned cart comes with a unique, sharable link that:
Can be used across different devices and browsers.
Automatically reflects current product pricing, inventory, and availability.
Helps complete purchases with fewer roadblocks.
How It Works: Step-by-Step
1. Cart Abandonment Triggers the Link
When a customer adds items to a cart but doesn’t complete the purchase, a unique checkout URL is created.
2. Email Notification (If Enabled)
If the Abandoned Cart Email setting is turned on under
Payments > Settings > Notifications
, the customer receives this link via email.
3. Seamless Cross-Device Access
The customer clicks the link from any device or browser.
The cart loads with up-to-date info including:
Product names
Pricing
Inventory availability
Customer Experience Highlights
Out-of-Stock Products: Clearly marked, with a “Remove Item” button available.
Unavailable or Deleted Items: Triggers a “Continue Shopping” call-to-action.
Dynamic Pricing: If a product’s price or name has changed, the cart reflects that automatically.
No Cart Editing: The checkout link is view-only for that specific cart—no new items can be added.
Guest Checkout Support: Even non-logged-in users get a temporary session to view and complete their cart.
Rules to Know
One Link Per Cart: Each abandoned cart session gets its own unique URL.
Cart-Specific Items Only: Only items from the original session are displayed.
No Editing: The cart is fixed and cannot be changed via the link.
Why This Matters
This upgrade removes friction in the buying process and helps online stores recover more carts with less effort. By making abandoned carts sharable and device-agnostic, it's easier than ever for customers to come back and finish their purchases.
It’s a small change that delivers big value.
