Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication

Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication!

June 30, 20252 min read

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a simple yet powerful way to add extra protection to your account. This guide walks through setting up 2FA using an authenticator app within the Gold Star Pro system and what to do if access is lost.

Why Use an Authenticator App?

Instead of relying on just a password, an authenticator app generates a unique 6-digit code every 30 seconds. This one-time code helps protect your account from:

  • Phishing attacks

  • SIM-swapping scams

  • Risks tied to SMS or email-based 2FA

Step-by-Step: Set Up an Authenticator App

Here’s how to enable this added layer of security:

1. Navigate to Your Profile

  • Go to: Settings > My Profile

2. Begin the Setup

  • Click Set Up Authenticator App

3. Link Your Authenticator App

  • Use any TOTP-based app to either:

    • Scan the QR Code

    • Manually enter the setup key

4. Verify Setup

  • Enter the 6-digit code generated by your app to confirm

5. Save Backup Codes

  • Securely store the backup codes shown during setup

  • These codes act as a recovery option and can be reset later in your profile if needed

6. Use It on Your Next Login

  • Once set up, you’ll be prompted to enter a code from your app during future logins

What If You Lose Access to Your Authenticator App?

No need to worry. Gold Star Pro offers multiple 2FA options to help you log in securely:

  • Use SMS or Email-based 2FA as alternatives

  • Enter one of your backup codes (each code is valid for one-time use only)

Understanding Backup Codes

Backup codes ensure you don’t get locked out of your account. These are:

  • Provided during your authenticator app setup

  • One-time use only

  • Replace the need for an app-generated code when logging in

To Regenerate Backup Codes:

  • Go to: Settings > My Profile

  • Click the Generate Backup Codes option on the authenticator app section

With these simple steps, your account gains an added shield of protection. Always store backup codes in a secure place and revisit your profile settings to regenerate them if needed.
