International Automatic Tax Setup!

June 23, 20252 min read

Businesses now have the ability to configure and apply automatic taxes across multiple countries, including VAT where applicable. This ensures accurate and compliant tax calculations on global checkouts, making it easier to manage taxes for international and domestic sales. Below is a detailed guide on how to set up and manage this feature in Gold Star Pro.

Key Benefits of Automatic Taxes

  • Supports multiple countries inside and outside the US.

  • Includes VAT and local tax ID handling.

  • Automatically applies correct taxes on checkouts, invoices, and payment links.

  • Works across all payment providers and checkout types.

  • Product-level configurations now support global auto taxes.

Step-by-Step: Setting Up Automatic Taxes

1. Access Tax Settings

  • Go to: Payments > Settings > Taxes > Automatic Taxes
This is your central hub for managing global tax settings.

2. Add Nexus Addresses

  • Select countries where you need to collect taxes.

  • For US and Canada, add specific states as required.

  • You can select multiple countries or states at once for bulk addition.

  • When deleting, note that:

    • Deleting a country also removes its states from your nexus list.

    • States must be deleted individually unless the country is removed.

3. Include Business Tax IDs

  • When adding a nexus address, enter any relevant Tax ID or VAT ID.

  • Tax IDs can provide additional tax benefits or influence the tax applied at checkout.

  • You can edit these IDs anytime from your configured nexus address list.

4. Product-Level Configuration

  • Go to: Payments > Products > Edit/Create > Product Tax Code

  • Enable or disable automatic taxes at the product level as needed.

5. For Existing US Automatic Tax Users

  • A guided migration is available within the tax settings UI.

  • Reconfigure your nexus addresses and automatic tax settings for all sub-accounts and products.

  • Note: The previous US auto tax system will be deprecated in six months, so timely migration is essential.

What’s Coming Next

  • Ability to capture business identification numbers at checkout for more precise tax calculations.

  • Support for cross-border taxes such as customs duties for international product sales.

Summary

With these automatic tax features, your business can ensure compliance and simplify the tax process across global markets. Take the time to configure your nexus addresses and tax IDs to ensure seamless, accurate checkouts for customers worldwide.
