Draft Contracts in Workflows

Draft Contracts in Workflows!

March 30, 20252 min read

Generating contracts just got a whole lot smarter. With the latest update to the Send Documents & Contracts action, you can now create contracts as drafts using workflows. This ensures that documents are reviewed and finalized by the right person before being sent—keeping your operations clean, consistent, and under control.

Why This Matters

Before this improvement, contracts generated through workflows were often sent automatically—sometimes before they were properly reviewed. Now, contracts can be auto-created as drafts, waiting for manual review before delivery.

This small shift gives teams better oversight and reduces the chances of sending incomplete or incorrect documents.

How to Create Draft Contracts Using Workflows

Here’s how to start generating contract drafts in your workflow process:

1. Create or Edit Your Workflow

Set up a new workflow or open an existing one. Choose your preferred trigger—such as when a deal enters a specific stage.

Example Trigger: Deal Stage changes to “Proposal Sent”

2. Add the “Send Documents & Contracts” Action

Once your trigger is in place, add the Send Documents & Contracts action.

  • Choose your contract template

  • Under Sending Mode, select Create as Draft

This setting tells the system not to send the contract immediately, but to save it as a draft for review.

3. Publish Your Workflow

Save and publish the workflow.

Now, every time the trigger event occurs, a draft contract is automatically generated and saved in the Documents & Contracts section—ready for human review.

4. Review and Send the Contract

Once the draft is created:

  • The assigned person or team goes to the Documents & Contracts section

  • Reviews the draft for accuracy

  • Sends the contract manually when ready

This step ensures full control over what gets sent—and when.

Benefits of Using Draft Contracts in Workflows

  • Controlled Sending: Prevents contracts from going out automatically

  • Quality Assurance: Ensures documents are reviewed before delivery

  • Team Ownership: Designated roles finalize and send, not the system

  • Workflow Integration: Keep automation while maintaining oversight

By creating contracts as drafts, teams can maintain high standards while benefiting from workflow automation. This feature is especially useful in industries where every document matters and approval steps are critical.

Let automation handle the setup—while your team handles the send.
